How to unassociate File Types in Windows 7!
It drove me nearly crazy yesterday, when I falsely associated a few files with the wrong application and could unsassociate them.
No mater how much I turned my registry upside down, how much I deleted, something was missing. I just couldn't find it. "F'k it!" I thought, and turned to google.
Lo and behold, I stumbled upon Unassoc. Simple, small, no installation! Oorah!

Simply search for the desired file type and click "remove file association (user)", after that Windows 7 will use the global file association. If you still have the wrong application as your standard application then do "delete file type".

Firefox: “I see where you are!”, Me: “No, ya don’t!” [Turning off Geolocation Tracking in Firefox]
Geolocation Tracking/Tagging, ever heard of it? No? Check out the link!
Short version: It's the identification of your geological location. Can be good, can be bad. I don't like being stalked though! Firefox, by standard, has geolocation tracking enabled. If you don't want it, turn it off with a few simple steps:
- Type in "about:config" in your url bar
- Type in "geo" in the filter bar
- Look for "geo.enabled" and turn its value to "false"
- For an extra icing on the cake: look for "geo.wifi.uri" and change its content to "WHATEVERYOUDESIRE"
This is how it looks after the change:
Enjoy your stalking-free Firefox!
MyDefrag: Simple Defragmenter with enormous hidden potential!
I've used O&O Defrag for a couple years now, and up until now I was always satisfied, but since O&O Defrag 12 the defrag algorithms seem to have dropped in effectiveness significantly.
Especially the access algorithm seems to be doing exactly squat. Files which are being accessed all time aren't moved at all, like they are supposed to. Anyway, I ditched the junk and set out to find me another defrag application.
I tried Defraggler, which was very nice but way too simple. I needed more. I tried PerfectDisk, it was better but not what I was looking for. I took a look at Auslogics Disk Defrag, something different, but still not what I wanted.

The Don’s WordPress Plugins Round-Up!
I've got a few emails lately asking me what kind of plug-ins I use with my WordPress blog! I confess, I'm a lazy baastich, I use a lot of plugins which make writing posts and managing the blog easier. Why should I not?
In its raw form, WordPress provides everything one needs to start blogging immediately. That's the biggest plus! I've tested a few blog and CMSs and a lot of them were either very bloated or had almost no customization available.
Check out the 22 plugins I'm using...
WSCC: Windows System Control Center – A convenient collection of system applications!
I'm an avid user of system applications. I like to know what's going on my system. Which is why I'm using a lot of Windows Sysinternals utilities like AutoRuns, Process Monitor, Process Explorer. To some extend also some of NirSoft's Utilities.
Well, recently I stumbled upon what you may call an "application center", KLS Soft's WSCC aka Windows System Control Center.
Essentially, WSCC provides a convenient GUI and lists all of Sysinternals', NirSoft's and Window's own utilities in a comfortable order. There are 2 ways to run WSCC, though.
You can choose not to download every application which results in longer starting times of each application. Because every time you start WSCC the application needs to be downloaded and cached. The cache is emptied upon closing WSCC and you have to re-download said application upon starting WSCC again.
Or you can choose to download every one of the applications via "Updates" in the upper right corner in a chosen folder resulting in shorter starting times.
WSCC is a must-have for everybody who likes to know what's going on with their system! The sheer amount of utilities should satisfy almost any need!
Resident Evil 5, Red Faction: Guerrilla & Batman: Arkham Asylum – Videos and Screenshots!
I had some time on my hands to kill, so I decided to waste it with recording Red Faction: Guerrilla, Resident Evil 5 and Batman: Arkham Asylum gameplay videos and its cut-scenes/cinematics.
I've played mostly Red Faction: Guerrilla. This game is simply awesome. The fact that you can destroy pretty much anything in the environments invites some serious tactics. For example planting remote-exploded bombs under a bridge and killing passing enemies by blowing said bridge at the right moment.
Or blowing up huge smokestacks at the right moment only to watch said smokestack fall on a patrolling enemy car, following by exploding said car, throwing exploding car into the next enemy crowd. Resident Evil 5, however awesome this game is and Batman's super-awesome free flow combat system simply can't beat this for me!
That being said, Resident Evil 5 and Batman: Arkham Asylum are both awesome games! Batman even more so if you have a Nvidia GPU allowing you to play with PhysX enabled. Gives an even more eerie feeling when traveling in damp, dark corridors!
As for Resident Evil 5:
I recorded all 53 in-game cut-scene cinematics from Resident Evil 5. During the recording I switched the costumes (Chris: Warrior, Safari. Sheva: Clubbin', Business) and filters (default, retro, classic horror).
Sadly only 3 gameplay videos! Maybe I'll record a few more, when and if I play Resident Evil 5. The game is great, don't get me wrong. But it has very little replay-value for me. Since I played the game through I can replay all chapters. If you want me to replay a specific chapter, throw me a mail, tweet, dent, or leave a comment!
