How to enable the New Google Search!

Apparently google.com has a new search design:

How to enable it:

1. Go to google.com
2. Copy/Paste this into your web browser address field and hit enter:

   javascript:void(document.cookie="PREF=ID=20b6e4c2f44943bb:U=4bf292d46faad806:TM=1249677602:LM=1257919388:S=odm0Ys-53ZueXfZG;path=/;  domain=.google.com");

3. Reload google.com

Bear in mind, I have no idea how to revert this change. Still I like it this way much more!

Use Sony NW-A3000 without SonicStage Software and hack its Volume Limiter!

After a long time I wanted to use my Sony NW-A3000 then I remembered why I rarely use it: Its goddamn awful piece of garbage software called “SonicStage”. SonicStage for Sony’s Walkman is like the iTunes for the iPod.

Without it you can’t transfer your songs to your Sony NW-A3000 player,…or so I thought until yesterday! There are a few ways to transfer your songs to the player, let’s start with the easier one, shall we?

How to unassociate File Types in Windows 7!

It drove me nearly crazy yesterday, when I falsely associated a few files with the wrong application and could disassociate them.

No mater how much I turned my registry upside down, how much I deleted, something was missing. I just couldn’t find it. “F’k it!” I thought, and turned to google.

Lo and behold, I stumbled upon Unassoc. Simple, small, no installation! Oorah!

Simply search for the desired file type and click “remove file association (user)”, after that Windows 7 will use the global file association. If you still have the wrong application as your standard application then do “delete file type”.

Firefox: “I see where you are!”, Me: “No, ya don’t!” [Turning off Geolocation Tracking in Firefox]

Geolocation Tracking/Tagging, ever heard of it? No? Check out the link!

Short version: It’s the identification of your geological location. Can be good, can be bad. I don’t like being stalked though! Firefox, by standard, has geolocation tracking enabled. If you don’t want it, turn it off with a few simple steps:

1. Type in “about:config” in your url bar
2. Type in “geo” in the filter bar
3. Look for “geo.enabled” and turn its value to “false”
4. For an extra icing on the cake: look for “geo.wifi.uri” and change its content to “WHATEVERYOUDESIRE”

MyDefrag: Simple Defragmenter with enormous hidden potential!

I’ve used O&O Defrag for a couple years now, and up until now I was always satisfied, but since O&O Defrag 12 the defrag algorithms seem to have dropped in effectiveness significantly.

Especially the access algorithm seems to be doing exactly squat. Files which are being accessed all time aren’t moved at all, like they are supposed to. Anyway, I ditched the junk and set out to find me another defrag application.

I tried Defraggler, which was very nice but way too simple. I needed more. I tried PerfectDisk, it was better but not what I was looking for. I took a look at Auslogics Disk Defrag, something different, but still not what I wanted.

The Don’s Wordpress Plugins Round-Up!

I’ve got a few emails lately asking me what kind of plug-ins I use with my WordPress blog! I confess, I’m a lazy baastich, I use a lot of plugins which make writing posts and managing the blog easier. Why should I not?

In its raw form, WordPress provides everything one needs to start blogging immediately. That’s the biggest plus! I’ve tested a few blog and CMSs and a lot of them were either very bloated or had almost no customization available.
